Vault is a gymnastic event involving a launch off of a spring-board then travel through the air over an apparatus while doing twists and turns before landing solidly on the ground. Historically vault was used as a tool for training quick horse mounting, but in recent years the vault apparatus itself has changed drastically to no longer resemble those humble beginnings at all.
